Faith Doesn’t Need the Whole Map

One of the hardest things about trusting God is not knowing what comes next.
We like clarity. We like plans. We want to know where we are going, how we will get there, what will happen along the way, and whether everything will work out the way we hope. Sometimes we even ask God to show us the entire picture before we are willing to take the first step.
I understand that!
There have been moments when I have wanted God to give me the full plan before I moved. I wanted to know what was waiting on the other side of my yes. I wanted confirmation that the step would lead exactly where I hoped it would. But I have learned that God often gives us enough light for the step we are standing on, not the entire road ahead.
That can be uncomfortable! But that is where faith begins to become real.
Proverbs 3:5–6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Notice that it does not say we must understand everything before we trust Him. It tells us not to lean entirely on our own understanding. In other words, there will be moments when what God is doing will not make complete sense to us.
You may be standing in one of those moments right now.
You know something needs to change, but you don't know exactly how. You feel God pulling you toward something new, but you cannot see where it will lead. You have an idea, a burden, a dream, or an assignment in your heart, but you keep asking, What if I take this step and it doesn't work?
What if the step is not about knowing everything? What if the step is simply about trusting the One who knows everything?
Faith does not require a map with every turn marked out. Faith says, God, I may not see the whole road, but I trust You enough to take the next step.Sometimes the next step is making the phone call. Sometimes it is starting the business. Sometimes it is applying for the opportunity. Sometimes it is having the difficult conversation. Sometimes it is going back to school, writing the book, accepting the assignment, walking away from what God has told you to release, or simply beginning again.
You may not know what happens after that step. Take it anyway.
This does not mean moving recklessly or ignoring wisdom. It means refusing to let your need for certainty keep you from obeying what God has already made clear.
There is something powerful about taking one step and discovering that God is already there. The path may unfold differently than you imagined. There may be moments when you have to pause, adjust, wait, or take another step you did not expect. But you are not walking alone.
You don't need to see the whole path to obey the next instruction.
So today, I want you to stop asking yourself, Do I know where this is all going?” Ask instead, What is the next step God may be asking me to take? That is where your faith meets your obedience.
You may still have questions. You may still feel nervous. You may not feel completely ready. But remember what we talked about yesterday: your faith may already be stronger than you think.
You have survived before because you trusted God one day at a time.
Now, perhaps He is inviting you to trust Him one step at a time.
Your reflection for today: What is the next step God may be asking you to take? Write it down. Don't worry about the entire journey. Ask God for the courage to take that one step, and trust Him with what comes after it.
You don't need the whole map.
You just need to trust the One holding it.
