Faith While You Wait

Dear beautiful,

As we continue this week’s journey of discovering that There’s More Faith in You, I want you to think about something we talked about earlier this week; you don't need to see the whole path to trust God with your next step.

But what happens when you have taken the step and then nothing seems to happen?

You prayed, you obeyed you trusted. You did what you believed God was asking you to do, and now you are waiting.

Waiting can be one of the most difficult places for a woman of faith. Because when you are moving, you feel like something is happening. But when you are waiting, it can feel as though everything has stopped. You may find yourself asking, God, when will it happen? When will the door open? When will the answer come? When will things finally change?

I understand those questions because waiting can make you question what you thought you heard God say. When you cannot see movement, it is easy to assume that God is not doing anything. But silence is not necessarily absence.

Just because you cannot see God working does not mean He is not working.

Think about a seed planted in the ground. There is a period when nothing appears to be happening on the surface. You cannot see the roots growing. You cannot see what is developing underneath. Yet something is happening where your eyes cannot see.

Sometimes your life is like that seed.

God may be developing something in you that cannot yet be seen around you. He may be developing patience where you once demanded immediate answers. He may be strengthening your character. He may be teaching you how to steward what you have been praying for. He may be healing places in you that would have made it difficult to carry the very thing you asked Him to give you. And perhaps that is why your waiting season has lasted longer than you expected. Not because God has forgotten you.

But because He is preparing you.

We often ask, When will it happen?

But what if there is another question we need to ask? Who is God preparing me to become while I wait?

That question can change the way you experience waiting. Instead of seeing this season as wasted time, you begin to see it as preparation. Instead of measuring God's faithfulness by how quickly your circumstances change, you begin to notice how He is changing you.

Remember Day 3, when we talked about disappointment making it difficult to trust again? Sometimes waiting brings those disappointments back to the surface. You may wonder whether you should hope again. You may be afraid to believe because you don't want to be disappointed again.

And on Day 4, we talked about how your yes can come before your confidence. Sometimes you take the step before you feel ready, and then you find yourself waiting for the next instruction.

This is where faith becomes deeper. Faith while you wait says, God, even when I cannot see what You are doing, I believe You are still with me.

Isaiah 40:31 reminds us, “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength.”

Notice that waiting is connected to renewal. Your waiting season can strengthen you.

So don't despise this season simply because it is taking longer than you hoped. Pay attention to what God is teaching you. Pay attention to what He is healing. Pay attention to who you are becoming.

Maybe the answer is coming. Maybe the door is being prepared. Maybe you are being prepared for the door. Either way, God has not abandoned you.

Your reflection for today: Instead of asking only, When will it happen? ask, Who is God preparing me to become while I wait? Write down what you believe God may be developing in you during this season. Your waiting is not wasted.

There is more faith in you than you think and sometimes that faith grows deepest in the seasons when you have no choice but to trust.
